Voices of Yemen – a musical ensemble founded in 2021 by Ravid Kahalani (Yemen Blues), in collaboration and support with the Association for the Cultivation of Society and Culture – Yemenite Jewish Heritage
Led by Dr. Yigal Ben Shalom, who focus on preserving the sacred music and songs of the Yemenite Jewish tribe.
Their first album, “Yehuda,” was produced and arranged by American bassist Snir Blumenkranz (Yo-Yo Ma / John Zorn / Ciro Baptista) together with Kahalani, which presents a collection of carefully selected sacred songs performed by a choir of Yemeni singers and musicians – full of soul and charisma in their singing, unique to the tradition.
The tribal voices with organic harmony and powerful tin drumming are supported and amplified by intense rhythms and free sounds, bringing this ancient art to an experience of deep trance and musical joy.
