I’m traveling in a time machine and that’s enough for me” (Naomi Shemer)”
Naomi Shemer is one of the central composers of Hebrew music. The evening will be dedicated to a composer whose songs are rooted in the landscapes of the country and the daily life that surrounded her. From the Sea of Galilee came the songs of childhood and the kibbutz, in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem her work expanded to stages, bands and the main Hebrew choir, and in Paris she wrote and composed from an encounter with another culture and language. Her songs accompany generations of listeners and singers, and are present at ceremonies, holidays and cultural events.
A literary-musical performance that brings the audience together with the songs and the stories behind their writing. Through performances and conversation, the moments, places and characters that accompanied Shemer throughout the years unfold, from her connection to the Kinneret group to her life stations in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Paris. Carmit Sapir Weitz hosts the poet Roni Somek for a renewed encounter with the words and melodies that have become part of Hebrew culture.
Among the songs that will be performed in the evening: The Eucalyptus Grove, I Don’t Have a Scarce Moment, To the Water Holes, On the Honey and the Sting, and more.
